Tony and I just returned from our vacation in beautiful Mexico. We initially had our hearts set on visiting San Juan, Puerto Rico and St. Martin. But, when the hurricanes pumpled through these beautiful cities, they were left in pretty rough shape.
In Mexico, I’m able to speak the language more fluently here. It’s quite strange really. Perhaps, it’s because I’m forced to speak it. And I don’t think about it, I just let the words flow. Like when I had to ask the locals for directions. Spanish is such a beautiful language. The rolling R, the soothing S. Finding balance and inspiration is what we needed so desperately…The demands of starting a business was taking a toll. We needed an escape from it all. So we decided to pack our bags and head far south as we could. For a little R & R.
I think sometimes we go through life thinking it’s all about work and being “successful” that we forget to live our lives fully and to appreciate every day. We as Americans have this notion that life is all about work, work and more work. That women are supposed to look a certain way, that we are required to settle down and be married by a certain age. The list goes on. The requirements that we have on ourselves are so demanding. I’m at a point where I just roll with it. I’m comfortable and content with who I am. I indulge in the food (all in moderation of course) that I love without worries of 34, 24, 34. There’s more to life than what we see when we wake up every morning.
As I near the end of my 20s I appreciate more and more the quiet, still moments. Lately, my most tranquil moments involve a cup of chai tea, a good book and some gelato.
